Cloudline Tours was started to bring our guests to the unique places we have found in our travels. Japan is a natural selection for us to start with, given both of our background and experience. With one of the most unique and attainable trips available in winter sports, our invitation is for you to ‘Come ride with us!’
Company Mission: We strive to provide unique opportunities to follow in the footsteps of the pioneers of the sport. Taking the anxiety out of organizing a trip, we allow our guests to enjoy the culture and the surroundings in style.
J.P. Martin, Co-owner, Trip LeaderJ.P. started traveling at a young age. Hiking, camping, road trips, and racing inspired his interest in seeing 'what is out there.' It was a trip to Japan that became the beginning of his pro snowboarding career. He was riding with a famous pro shop team (Stormy) that spent the whole winters finding new areas to ride, combing the maps looking for the best combination of temps, winds, and accumulations. Basing himself in Japan, he spent six years traveling around the world year round searching for good snow. "The local riders we get to meet are part of what makes these trips so satisfying, we get to hang with the pioneers and current leaders in the snowsports community." Wilderness First Aid Certified.
Ako Martin, Co-ownerBorn in Japan, Ako enjoys the outdoor life hiking and skiing while living in Lake Tahoe, CA. She worked in Tokyo as an Assistant Director for the art procurement department for one of the largest trading companies in Japan. As an art consultant, she contributed to the creation of the newest modern art museum in Tokyo. She has worked as an operations manager for an adventure travel company. Travel has taken her to many parts of the world, but she has deep affection for Japan and its culture and hopes that the guests can take a glimpse into all the wonderful things that the country has to offer.
Aki, Trip LeaderAki was born and raised in the mountains of Nagano, Japan. His family was a big influence in the success of snowboarding and acceptance at many of the resorts in the area. Growing up, he was primarily an alpine competitor, and that is why he is such a powerful freerider today. He moved to the US and completed high school while training at the Carabasset Valley Academy in Maine. He raced with notable riders such as Jeremy Jones (big mountain) and Adam Hostetter (Nagano '98 Olympic alpine snowboard team) . We consider him a pioneer of the snowboard scene in the Nagano area, but he just wants to meet people and share his local culture, customs, and friends.
